Want A Book? Operation TBR Reduction & Giveaway #4

Operation TBR Reduction Button
If you're in the same boat as me (too many books, no more hiding spaces!) click on the link above to join in Operation: TBR Reduction.  You'll find some kindred souls and feel better :)  If you're read any of the books in my post give me a shout out.

So it's week #4 in my accountability project (previous weeks can be found here).  I have come to the realization that I must stop filling requests from paperbackswap which earns me credits to request MORE books. Because I have no willpower when it comes to requesting everything that catches my fancy, the only way I can achieve this is by either giving the books I've read to charity, my local UBS, randomly bookcrossing them or sending them to blog readers who are more likely to give them some love. [ So here's what I'm going to do.  Every month I will host a used book contest.  I'll list several books from my tbr pile at the end of this post, those books I know I can easily find and invite you all to choose a title or two that you would like to read.  Just leave me a comment with your contact info & your choice(s), each individual  will be assigned a number and I will use random.org to choose the winner(s). Feel free to pick as many books as you'd like but your entry will only count once.  If the winner has selected several titles I will use random.org again to pick the book for me.  Once I've read the book I will send it off to the winner(s). I plan to do this every month and if time allows I will try to choose a minimum of two winners each month. Entries close for this month on July 31, 2012.

My goal is to weed that tbr pile down to something manageable.  I am currently surrounded by own personal library which may be bigger than the actual library in my town.  I'm too embarrassed to post pictures right now because I have books in every nook and cranny. In order to stay accountable and trim back the pile before it suffocates one of my pets I'm going to attempt to publicly humiliate myself by posting my piss-poor attempts to "de-clutter". All comments and wisdom are always welcome.   Here's how this week went.

These books were shipped off to pbs members and are no longer collecting dust on my shelves.

Now as fear and desire converge, Rowdy fights to save her from the deadly threats of a stranger, to rid her of her demons, and to satisfy a hunger more powerful than either can imagine

Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt (historical romance)
A man controlled by his desires...
Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand— she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk.

A woman haunted by her past...
Caire makes a simple offer—in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. A bargain neither could refuse.

A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix (pnr book #1 The Maker's Song)
 HIS NAME IS DANTE.
Dark. Talented. Beautiful. Star of the rock band Inferno. Rumored owner of the hot New Orleans nightspot Club Hell. Born of the Blood, then broken by an evil beyond imagination.

HIS PAST IS A MYSTERY.
F.B.I. Special Agent Heather Wallace has been tracking a sadistic serial murderer known as the Cross Country Killer, and the trail has led her to New Orleans, Club Hell, and Dante. But the dangerously attractive musician not only resists her investigation, he claims to be "nightkind": in other words, a vampire. Digging into his past for answers reveals little. A juvenile record a mile long. No social security number. No known birth date. In and out of foster homes for most of his life before being taken in by a man named Lucien DeNoir, who appears to guard mysteries of his own.

HIS FUTURE IS CHAOS.
What Heather does know about Dante is that "something" links him to the killer -- and she's pretty sure that link makes him the CCK's next target. Heather must unravel the truth about this sensual, complicated, vulnerable young man -- who, she begins to believe, may indeed be a vampire -- in order to finally bring a killer to justice. But Dante's past holds a shocking, dangerous secret, and once it is revealed not even Heather will be able to protect him from his destiny....

In The Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami (J-horror)
It looked as though Maki had another mouth below her jaw. Oozing from this second, smiling mouth was a thick, dark liquid, like coal tar. Her throat had been slit literally from ear to ear and more than halfway through, so that it looked as if her head might fall right off. And yet, incredibly, Maki was still on her feet and still alive, her eyeballs swiveling wildly and her lips quivering as she wheezed foam-flecked blood from the wound in her throat. She seemed to be trying to say something. . . .

It is just before New Year's. Frank, an overweight American tourist, has hired Kenji to take him on a guided tour of Tokyo's sleazy nightlife on three successive evenings. But Frank's behavior is so strange that Kenji begins to entertain a horrible suspicion: that his new client is in fact the serial killer currently terrorizing the city. It isn't until the second night, however, in a scene that will shock you and make you laugh and make you hate yourself for laughing, that Kenji learns exactly how much he has to fear and how irrevocably his encounter with this great white whale of an American will change his life.

Kenji's intimate knowledge of Tokyo's sex industry, his thoughtful observations and wisecracks about the emptiness and hypocrisy of contemporary Japan, and his insights into the shockingly widespread phenomena of "compensated dating" and "selling it" among Japanese schoolgirls, give us plenty to think about on every page. Kenji is our likable, if far from innocent, guide to the inferno of violence and evil into which he unwillingly descends-and from which only Jun, his sixteen-year-old girlfriend, can possibly save him. . . .

Loveaholic by Touko Kawai Vol. 1 (yaoi)
Nishioka is a selfish and irresponsible yet talented young photographer. Then there's Matsukawa, a man who infallibly makes Nishioka's work a smash hit. At first glance, these two look like they don't get along, but underneath it all there's actually a burning love for each other.

On Fire by Drew Zachary (m/m)
Take one tall, broad-shouldered fireman in his early thirties. Mix well with one skinny, eighteen-year-old college kid who lives for sex, and the results are sheer pleasure. Sam and Robert are about as opposite as you can get, aside from the fact that they're both into sex with guys. When Sam picks Robert up during Canada Day festivities, neither of them are expecting more than making some fireworks for the holiday. And the sparks definitely fly, especially since Sam is able to recharge his batteries as only an eighteen year old can. Robert finds himself both entranced and smitten with young Sam, who is bubbly and happy and can have more sex in the space of an hour than Robert can believe. But there's a world of difference between eighteen and thirty-two, as Sam and Robert discover along the way. Friends and family add to the difficulties they encounter. But the two of them come to realize that underneath it all, they have more than just a physical need for each other. The emotion that blossoms between them is soon as great as their first sizzling attraction. Drew Zachary, the author of Transforming Hades and Skin Deep, has written a romance as hot as the flame it's named after.

Seduction & Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone (historical romance)

She saves her deepest desires for the novel she dares to pen, wherein a handsome lord with dark powers seduces her. Isabella tries to resist the mysterious Earl of Black. Yet as he pursues her with inexplicable knowledge of her past and kisses that consume her, Isabella fears she will succumb.

If only the earl could tell Isabella the truth. With very real and treacherous thieves endangering her life, Black will need to protect Isabella from the very people she trusts the most…

Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman
In a rare and gorgeous departure, beloved novelist Alice Hoffman weaves a web of tales, all set in Blackbird House. This small farm on the outer reaches of Cape Cod is a place that is as bewitching and alive as the characters we meet: Violet, a brilliant girl who is in love with books and with a man destined to betray her; Lysander Wynn, attacked by a halibut as big as a horse, certain that his life is ruined until a boarder wearing red boots

arrives to change everything; Maya Cooper, who does not understand the true meaning of the love between her mother and father until it is nearly too late. From the time of the British occupation of Massachusetts to our own modern world, family after family’s lives are inexorably changed, not only by the people they love but by the lives they lead inside Blackbird House.

These interconnected narratives are as intelligent as they are haunting, as luminous as they are unusual. Inside Blackbird House more than a dozen men and women learn how love transforms us and how it is the one lasting element in our lives. The past both dissipates and remains contained inside the rooms of Blackbird House, where there are terrible secrets, inspired beauty, and, above all else, a spirit of coming home.

Lady Sparrow by Barbara Metzger (regency romance)
When young heiress Minerva Caldwell buries her elderly husband, she uncovers a disturbing secret. Now, with help from a handsome lord, she embarks on a search that will risk her life-and her heart.
